Day 4 -- The Ferry

Summary:
driving to Prince Rupert ... no thanks
  • distance travelled: I have no idea the nautical miles
  • hours driving: 0 though I spent 25 on the ferry
  • regrettable decisions: (0)
  • wildlife seen: (0)
my oh-so-comfy floor space
Saturday afternoon into Sunday afternoon were spent on the Inside Passage Ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert ... I traded 15 hrs (> 500 km) for a 22 hr ferry ride (and a few hours sitting in port on the ferry).  I think I made the right call ... no way I want to make that drive, then continue on up to the Yukon and Northwest Territory.  I've done ferries that were an hour or so but I've never taken an overnight, FOREVER ferry ... and sadly I booked too late to be able to get a cabin.  So I was roughing it for the night.  But at least I had a "comfy chair".  I spent the night sleeping on the floor between rows of chairs ... at least the rocking of the ferry helped me get a few good hours of sleep.

The scenery was amazing though.  Sadly no wildlife poked its head out that I could see.  I start the drive north tomorrow with a planned stop in Stewart, BC.  Tonight is a rest and recover evening as I didn't get much sleep on the ferry.
