The Car

Today began with an absurdly early 4:30 am wake up; I had an early flight to catch with a layover in Toronto on my way to Victoria.  I'm sorry, but 5 hours is too long to be stuck in a metal tube in the sky, especially if the plane doesn't have screens for movies, etc.

it's after midnight Halifax-time (not even 8:30 in Victoria) and I'm still going, trying to stay up late enough that I don't wake up at 3:30 ready to start my day tomorrow.  My circadian rhythm is going to be all sorted of messed up until I'm back in the Atlantic time zone ... small price to pay, I'm sure.

I think I'd actually forgot how beautiful Victoria actually is (it has been more than 13 years since I was here).  I landed today and it was a balmy 80 degrees (I speak Fahrenheit folks) with flowers everywhere.  Through my sneezing (thank you, allergies), I could hardly take it all in.

Mountains are something I don't see every day but I could certainly get used to them ... I might had to add those to my list ... make an ocean and mountains requirements for any future domicile.

Most of today was spent completing the paperwork in order to take possession of Chuck's car.  (Chuck is the reason I'm here; he's my mother's biological father.  He lived here in Victoria and I'm taking possession of his car after his death last year ... I'm sure he'll come up later in the blog, don't worry).  I'm not going to lie, until I saw it with my own eyes, I was sure the car was going to be a P.O.S. and I'd be stranded in Victoria having to book a return flight home.  But the car is actually in better than decent shape.

When I got in the car today, it almost smelled like Chuck, or at least what my brain wanted to think I remembered him smelling like.  The human brain sure is an amazing thing, isn't it.

Tomorrow is the real start of my adventure.  Stay tuned.

I have to thank my brother, JD, for my birthday gift; he didn't know what to do with a Canadian car half a continent away ... so he was kind enough to let me have it for the small price of him not having to deal with it.  So thanks JD.  I'm going to enjoy my road trip across Canada.
